Making Your Voice Heard

Amber L. Simmons is the founder and lead attorney at the Simmons Law Firm. Amber is a fourth (4th) generation resident of Nipomo, California, and the first person in her family to go to college. Amber studied Agricultural Business and Dairy Science at Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo, where she graduated magna cum laude in 2008.  After graduating from college, Amber left the Central Coast and moved to Sacramento to be part of the prestigious Capitol Fellows Program. Amber was a Senate fellow for then-Senator Lieutenant Governor Abel Maldonado. While working at the Capitol, Amber staffed legislative bills that later became law, worked with lobbyists and special interest groups, and maintained constituent relations.

After her Fellowship, Amber remained in Sacramento and attended the University of the Pacific – McGeorge School of Law, where she graduated with honors in 2012. During law school, Amber was a member of the California Initiative Review and the Moot Court Executive Board.  Amber was a regional quarterfinalist in the New York National Moot Court Competition and also a participant in the world’s largest moot court competition – the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition. Amber also continued her government service and interned with the United States Department of Justice – Environment and Natural Resources Division, where she assisted in defending the federal government in environmental litigation over numerous large-scale public projects, such as the Central Valley Project, the Colorado River Water Agreement, the Truckee-Carson River Water Agreement, and Endangered Species Act impacts of military actions. Amber also interned for Congressman Jeff Denham (Central Valley) and spent a summer in Washington, D.C., representing California’s interests at a federal level.

After taking the California Bar Exam, which she passed on her first attempt, Amber returned home to the Central Coast to begin her career and family. While waiting for her results, Amber worked on several local political races, including for her dear friend and “second mother” Joni Gray.

In 2013, Amber joined Andre, Morris & Buttery, where she worked as an associate attorney until 2021. During her tenure with AMB, Amber worked on complex civil litigation, real estate litigation, business disputes, probate proceedings, will and trust disputes, and employment litigation.

In 2018, Amber’s life drastically changed – she had two (2) children and went through a custody battle herself.  Because of those life experiences, Amber decided to expand her practice areas to include family law.  Amber then worked with Certified Family Law Specialists in 2021 and 2022.

After working for other people for almost ten (10) years, Amber founded the Simmons Law Firm in order to serve her clients and her community her way – with excellence and compassion. Amber dedicates her practice to being a warrior and trusted counselor for her clients and making her clients’ voices heard.
